Started pickin at age 7. Got bored and started playing rhythm guitar behind my Dad's western swing fiddle playing. At age 12, Dad played me Chet Atkins' version of Alabama Jubilee & Tiger Rag. Wow!! I was hooked. Started taking lessons from a talented Chet picker and later Dad got me lessons from Bobby Caldwell in St. Louis. Started thumbin' it at age 13. At age 16, heard Jerry Reed for the first time.Wow again!! In 1980, was the staff guitarist at a Gospel recording studio. That led to 1982 where I got to play lead guitar on a TBN country gospel show hosted by Wanda Jackson & Leon McAulliffe(Bob Will's steel guitar player) In 1991 or so, got ahold of Brad Jones(now Buster B Jones) and he taught me a bunch of his stuff and Reed tunes as well. Got Craig Dobbins Jerry Reed book and learned even more Reed stuff. In 1995, I won the Oklahoma Acoustic Guitar Contest. |
