House Concerts:
Submitted by Vince Downes: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/08/fashion/08concerts.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=in+home+concerts&st=nyt&oref=slogin
House Concerts!Great idea! Thanks to Jim Elwell ,Steve and Lorraine Ernst,Ron and Sharon Terhune,Jim and Linda Ankrom,Bill and Maro, Diane Cooper and Deb Boucher ,over the years I've enjoyed performing a few for appreciative audiences.

Gig Recap:
Friday June 6th Andres
Okay not everyone can take a steady diet of Classical Guitar like Jim Ankrom and I are able to but audiences are proving to appreciate a mix of traditional classical repertoire with arrangements of classic rock melodies by groups they grew up listening to as well as Contemporary Fingerstyle .
Got the chance to play a Stefan Grossman song (The Way She Walks) for a friend of his that kept leaving his table from the other room to come and see/hear the guitar music.Didn't get his name but he loved the music and told me he was going to see Tommmy Emmanuel in the city with Stefan the next night.
A fine guitarist in her own right,Jan Lowe, sat at the front table.A dedicated fingerpicker/songwriter! I hope to do a future show with Jan.
Latest solo guitar arrangements: Tequila Sunrise,Bad ,Bad Leroy Brown,Rain,Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay,Wonderful Tonight,Three little Birds,No Woman, No Cry.... Currently learning to play 'Bermuda Triangle Exit' by Stefan Grossman and 'Snap a Little Owl by John Renbourne. Also working up some solo guitar head arrangements of two old tunes by the Animals ;'Please Don't let me be misunderstood' and 'We gotta get out of this place'.

Saturday June 7th Village Square Inn
Musical guests Jan Lowe and Dean Dobbs played some original music and jammed a few songs with with me while political discussions and laughter ,hand- in -hand ,filled the room.
Friday 13th Amazing Grapes
Nothing ominus happened just a lot of extended jamming with Joe Lobosco on Drums.'Hog Farm' and 'Insomnia' were particularly fun that night...and of course Floyds 'Fearless',Hot Tuna's 'Watersong' and Tull's ,'Teacher'!Joe graciously lent the drum kit to Mark Stevans ,who played great on the Beatles, 'Rain'.Joe was particularly inspiring and had me up for the gig!The three hour set shot by too quickly.I strung up the James Goodall Concert Jumbo with Custom Lights a few hours earlier and enjoyed the hell out of playing that guitar.Gonna use it more and get my Martin D-16 a fret job, its due!
Tuesday 24th Rio Rancho Puplic Library
A great visit to New Mexico!Had fun playing my songs and instrumentals for a group of about 40 people.Since I was in UFO Country as well as 'The land of Enchantment',I coudn't resist playing and singing McGuinn's ,'Mister Spaceman'.A nice little gig in a good sounding room with a nice stage.Linda took photos and a little video.Checkout:
Many thanks to Terrie Erskine ,who books the shows ,for the gig and use of her sound system.I played guitar on Terrie's CD,'Niche'.

Need tabs or notation of arrangements or my music?

John,

Appreciate the speedy response... I hadn't heard your arrangement...it's great, faster than I've heard before and I think I like both. Please get me the notation/tab at your convenience and I think I saw in your website that you like Paypal? If you can send me an Paypal Invoice or your account name that works for me.

I did an AOL search for 'Lord Inchiquin Tab' and your site popped up 4th or 5th.

Incidentally, you're a terrific player, thanks for the mp3.

Other Concerns:

An Orwellian email from my friend Rick Conte of the Cannonballs:
There was a chemistry professor in a large college who had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab, the professor noticed one young man, an exchange student, who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter.
The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting Communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new Communist regime.
While telling his story, he looked at the professor and asked a strange question: 'Do you know how to catch wild pigs?'
The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said that it was no joke.
'You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn.
When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming.
'When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat that free corn again. You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.
'Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are trapped. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.'
The young man then told the professor that this is exactly what he sees happening in America . The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, subsidized housing, school programs, medicine, drugs, etc. We continually lose our freedoms, just a little at a time.
We should always remember two truths: There is no such thing as a free lunch, and you can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.
If you see that all of this wonderful government 'help' is a problem confronting the future of freedom in America , you might want to send this on to your friends.
If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life, then you will probably delete this email.
God help us when the gate slams shut!
